Curiosities about the toy and variants

Mumm-Ra Mummy was the prize in LJN's "Free Mumm-Ra" promotion. Many of the figures released starting in 1986 were part of this promotion, in which the figure packaging included a cut-out that earned points; if you collected 6 points and mailed them to the address provided by LJN, they would send this Mumm-Ra Mummy figure to your home for free. Proof of purchase for the regular figures earned 2 points and vehicles 4 points, so this figure could be obtained with any combination of points. Later, this figure was also included in the "Mumm-Ra's Tomb" playset.

Unlike other collections such as MOTU, Saint Seiya, or Street Sharks, where the "Mail-Away" figures are the most expensive and hardest-to-find pieces in the collection, in this case the Mumm-Ra Mummy figure is relatively inexpensive and easy to obtain. This may be because this promotion ran for a long time and wasn’t exclusive to any one country, plus this figure was later included in a playset.

Character

Mumm-ra is the series' main antagonist and the ThunderCats' most powerful enemy. A demonic priest who calls himself "the one who does not die" or "the immortal," he possesses sorcerous powers and seemingly eternal life. However, he is nothing more than a servant of the Ancient Evil Spirits, who grant him his immense powers and immortality so he can continue his quest to expand his dominion across the Third Planet.
