When the first Star Wars movie was released in November 1977 it was an immediate success, and the date was very close to Christmas.
Unfortunately, KENNER didn’t have enough time to produce the figures for the Christmas campaign, the most important of the year for a toymaker, so they decided to create this cardboard display that was sold in toy stores with a voucher that could be sent to the toymaker and they would mail a starter pack of four figures: Luke, Leia, R2D2 and Chewbacca.
The children had to wait between 2 and 4 months to receive the figures of their favorite characters.
Today this cardboard display stand is a very valuable collector’s item, as it is the first piece in the collection.
