IG-88 is part of the third wave of figures from the Star Wars Vintage Collection, produced by the toy company KENNER in 1980. This wave of figures was released to coincide with the premiere that same year of the second film in the saga, *The Empire Strikes Back*.
This figure was released in various countries and reissued in subsequent years, so it can be found with different packaging and/or minor color variations.
IG-88 is a bounty hunter droid. He appears in *The Empire Strikes Back* as one of the mercenaries recruited by Darth Vader to track down Han Solo and Princess Leia. His distinctive design, resembling an assassin droid, makes him memorable.
