Mr. Freeze, whose real name is Dr. Victor Fries, is one of the most tragic and complex villains in "Batman: The Animated Series." Originally a brilliant scientist specializing in cryogenics, Victor Fries becomes Mr. Freeze after an accident in his laboratory.
This accident occurs while trying to save the life of his wife, Nora, who was seriously ill and kept in a cryogenic state. The incident leaves him unable to survive outside of a sub-zero environment, forcing him to live in a refrigerated suit that keeps him alive but dehumanizes him, both physically and emotionally.
