Curiosities about the toy and variants

The Lex Luthor figure is part of the first wave of figures in the Super Powers collection produced by toy manufacturer KENNER between 1984 and 1986.

As it was one of the first wave of figures, it was reissued in subsequent years, although the first edition with the "12-back" cardboard box is the most sought after by collectors. This box contains an image of the first twelve figures in the collection on the back.

Like the other figures in the Super Powers line, the Lex Luthor figure comes with an "action feature." In this case, squeezing his legs raises his left arm.

Character

Alexander Joseph "Lex Luthor" is a supervillain who appears in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Lex Luthor originally appeared in Action Comics #23 (April 1940). Since then, he has endured as the archenemy of the superhero Superman.

Lex Luthor was portrayed as a narcissistic and selfish mad scientist from the 1960s to the mid-1980s. Since the mid-1980s, he has been portrayed more often as the power-hungry CEO of LexCorp.

He wants to rid the world of Superman, ostensibly because he sees Superman as a threat to humanity, but in reality he envies Superman's popularity and influence.
