Checklist – Super Powers – Kenner

Between 1984 and 1986, the Kenner toy company launched the Super Powers based on characters from the DC comics universe. The figures were particularly innovative for the time, as they featured “action-features” when squeezing legs or arms.

Several vehicles were also released with these figures, as well as a Hall of Justice Playset. The toys were very popular and inspired future launches by other companies.

In this checklist we review all the pieces and accessories that are part of the collection.

Wave 1 (1984)

The first year of the collection, KENNER decided to launch the most famous characters of the DC universe, with these 12 figures began a line of enjoyment of great popularity at the time. The toy company played it safe, and launched figures such as Batman or Superman in a scale in which they did not exist until then, taking advantage of the change of trend in the scale of the toys that KENNER itself had marked with the STAR WARS figures.

Wave 2 (1985)

After the great reception given to the first wave of the Super Powers, the following year, the toy company KENNER decided to launch a second wave with more characters from the same DC universe, although the characters of this second wave are not as famous or well known as those of the first wave, it was also very successful.

Wave 3 (1986)

In 1986 the Super Powers came to an end with this latest wave, KENNER released 10 more figures to complete the set of the most famous characters of the DC universe. As is common with toy lines, the figures from the last wave of a collection are the most expensive and hardest to find, as fewer were produced than the previous ones.

Playset and Vehicles

The Super Powers collection also contained a playset with several vehicles that accompanied all the figures and completed the play experience of the children of the time.

One more…

In the 80’s it was very common for toy companies to reach agreements with other toy companies in other countries to distribute a line in that country. In the case of Argentina, the toy companies PACIPA and PLAYFULL were in charge of distributing the Super Power (super amigos).

Unilaterally, these toymakers decided to launch an extra and exclusive figure for that country, to this day this figure is the most coveted by collectors of the line.
