The Cobra Officer (v1) is the original field leader of the Cobra organization, released by Hasbro in 1982 as part of Series One. As one of the "Original Sixteen" figures, this version is defined by its straight-arm sculpt, featuring the iconic blue uniform with the Cobra sigil.
In addition to its single-carded release, the figure was also available through the Sears exclusive Cobra Missile Command Headquarters playset. This 3 3/4" scale figure is a vital piece of vintage history, representing the tactical command of "The Enemy" at the very start of the A Real American Hero line.
Variants:
The Cobra Officer (v1) has specific technical variations that collectors should note. Initial runs featured either thick or thin thumbs, which also included different shoulder joint lengths, making arms non-interchangeable between torso variants. In 1983, the v1.5 update introduced swivel-arm articulation, updated the mold date to "82-83," and changed the eye color to black.
A crucial condition note is the silver Cobra sigil on the chest, which is notorious for scratching off easily; a figure lacking this logo is typically a sign of play wear rather than a factory error.
Notable exclusives include the JC Penney three-pack, where the Officer was uniquely equipped with Short-Fuze’s mortar and bipod.
