MOBAT

The MOBAT, known as the Motorized Battle Tank, was initially introduced in U.S. toy stores in 1982. This original release of the G.I. Joe vintage vehicle included the straight-arm version of its driver, Steeler.

In 1983, the action figure line underwent a re-tooling to feature swivel-arm battle grip articulation. Consequently, the MOBAT was subsequently packaged with the updated swivel-arm Steeler, a change reflected on the front of its box.

This iconic G.I. Joe tank for collectors was also available in 1984 before its discontinuation in 1985. It is also recognized by the alternate designations 'Super Duty Battle Tank' and 'Multi-Ordnance Battle Tank'.

Variations

There are two distinct variants concerning the MOBAT's tank treads. Early production models featured solid treads, while later versions incorporated notches designed to enhance tread alignment. Both tread types are generally considered to hold comparable rarity and collector value. Additionally, the battery cover underwent a modification to improve its secure fastening.

For international markets, the MOBAT saw several unique releases.

In Canada during the early 1980s, a black recolored version of the MOBAT was distributed as a Consumer Distributing exclusive, rebranded as the Cobra Tank.

European markets in 1984 received the MOBAT as the Action Force Battle Tank, featuring a distinct green, red, and black color scheme.

Due to varied international distribution, packaging designs and languages for this G.I. Joe action figure vehicle often differ by region.
