Checklist – Pokemon Tomy – Kanto

The first collection of Pokémon figures, popularly known as “Pokemon Tomy”, marked a before and after in the merchandising of the franchise.

Released in Japan in 1997 by the TOMY company under the name “Monster Collection”, this series offered small PVC figures that represented with surprising fidelity the Pokemon of the first generation.

In the beginning, production was in charge of the Auldey company, while distribution in the West was under license from Hasbro, which contributed to these figures reaching stores all over the world during the initial boom of the saga.

Over time, the original figures from the late 1990s have become real collector’s items. Here we review all the figures of the first generation (Kanto region):

First Generation Tomy:

Trainers

Although today Takara Tomy continues to produce new lines with Pokémon of all generations, for many collectors nothing beats the charm and nostalgia of those early models, which helped cement the global phenomenon that Pokémon represents today.
