The Storage Shell Turtles, following the original 1988 versions, are the second model of figures featuring the main characters without any clothing, just as they appeared in the animated series; in this case, their shells open up and their weapons can be stored inside. For many collectors, these models are their favorites among the classic Turtles.
In 1994, these figures were reissued with a few minor modifications: the belt was changed to black, and the weapons were made translucent. These variants, known as "Black Belt," are today the most sought-after variants among collectors and the true "Holy Grails" of the collection.
