The Copperhead (v1) action figure was initially released in 1984 as part of the third series of G.I. Joe figures. This vintage figure was exclusively bundled with the Cobra Water Moccasin vehicle.
For collectors, Copperhead reappeared in 1987 via mail-order from Hasbro Direct, offered as part of a six-figure vehicle drivers set that included the HISS Driver, Stinger Driver, Crankcase, Frostbite, and Thunder.
The Copperhead (v1) action figure exists in two distinct paint variations. Early production runs featured dark green paint applications on the helmet, gloves, and leg areas. Subsequent releases showcased a lighter shade of green in these same areas. These distinctions are commonly referred to by collectors as the 'dark green gloves' and 'light green gloves' Copperhead versions. The dark green gloves variant is generally considered more challenging to acquire for a collection.
