The Thunder (v1) G.I. Joe action figure, a notable piece for any vintage collection, was initially released in 1984 as part of the third series. This particular figure was exclusively packaged with the Self Propelled Cannon (Slugger) tank.
For collectors, Thunder (v1) later reappeared in 1987 through Hasbro Direct's mail-order service as part of a six-figure vehicle drivers set, which also included Copperhead, HISS Driver, Stinger Driver, Crankcase, and Frostbite.
This classic action figure was subsequently featured in the "Special Missions Drivers" set, alongside Ace, Admiral Keel-Haul, Lampreys, Strato-Viper, and Motor Viper, further solidifying its place in G.I. Joe lore.
Collectors should note the variations in Thunder's helmet and headset components. These parts were molded in either a distinct bright green or a more subdued dull green plastic. An important technical detail for owners is that the dull green plastic variant has been observed to sometimes exude a red fluid after several years; however, this substance can be readily wiped away.
