Walrus Man figure was part of the second wave of figures (1978) of the Star Wars collection, during the following years several reeditions of the figure were made, so we can find it with different cardbacks.
The first edition of this second wave is known as “20-back”, since the back of the carton showed 20 figures, the 12 from the first wave and the 8 from the second wave. This edition included a promotion whereby by sending 4 proofs of purchase to KENNER, the toy company mailed the figure of Boba Fett.
This figure was also included in the Cantina Playset.
Walrus Man, also known as Ponda Baba, is an Aqualish alien. He appears in “A New Hope” (Episode IV) in the Mos Eisley cantina. Together with his partner Dr. Evazan, he has a confrontation with Luke Skywalker which results in the amputation of Ponda Baba by the Obi-Wan Kenobi. Although his screen time is short, his distinctive appearance and his encounter with the protagonists add an element of danger at the beginning of the film. Walrus Man has become a recognizable character in the saga for his design and his brief but memorable role.
