Here we have one of the most legendary and coveted playsets from the 1980s, on par with Grayskull Castle itself: the Thundercats’ lair. This playset is massive—over 60 cm tall—and easily fits several figures. It features an action mechanism where a laser can be fired or received from the feline head at the top.
Included with the playset is a ship for the mutants featuring the same mechanism: when one of these pieces is hit by the laser (light) from the other, an explosion sound is triggered. In the case of the lair, each laser hit moves a counter; when it reaches 10, it triggers another sound and opens the lair’s door so the mutants can invade it. This wonderful Action-Feature can also be combined with the Laser Saber backpack accessory.
In addition to the laser game, the lair has cat-like legs that can be moved by operating the rear levers, with space for a figure underneath them. There is a trapdoor mechanism at the lair’s entrance through which mutants attempting to invade the lair can fall.
This playset comes with a ton of accessories, plus its battery-powered electronic game. It’s a highly sought-after piece that’s hard to find with all its parts intact. As you can imagine, the prices this playset fetches are astronomical, making it one of the most expensive playsets out there.
