“Masters of the Universe” (MOTU) is an entertainment franchise that began in the 1980s and is known primarily for its toy lines, animated series and comic books.
It was created by the Mattel toy company and debuted in 1981 with a series of action figures. The central story revolves around the conflict on the planet Eternia between He-Man, the main hero, and Skeletor, his archenemy.
He-Man, whose real name is Prince Adam, possesses a magical sword that grants him superhuman strength when he says the words “By the power of Grayskull… I have the power!”.
His mission is to protect Castle Grayskull and its secrets from Skeletor’s evil forces. The animated series, which premiered in 1983, was a smash hit and became a cultural icon of the 1980s.
In addition to the television series, the franchise has included comic books, movies and a variety of merchandising products.
